St. Anne School Seismic Retrofit

Dear St. Anne Community,

We are writing to request your help for our school. In 2014, the City of San Francisco passed an ordinance requiring all private schools to do a seismic study. Although our school has survived the past few earthquakes, the study revealed that if an earthquake shook from a different direction, the walls and ceilings might collapse. I don’t think we would want to imagine the consequences of that happening to our children. Therefore, with the support of Archbishop Cordileone, the School Board and Finance Committee, Mr. White and I have decided to move ahead with retrofitting our school for the safety of our children.

Through generous donors from the past who have established our endowment, the School and Parish will fund approximately $3.2 million, which is about 80% of the $ 4.1 million needed for the project. However, we’ll still need $800K. We hope to meet the rest through a loan and through fundraising. May we ask you to consider giving to this project to help us keep our children safe during the next earthquake? And may I also ask if you’d consider asking extended family members or your company’s matching donation program to support us in this worthwhile project?

Our school is great not because everyone takes care of themselves but because we help and take care of each other. Though we have no children of our own in the school, Mr. White and I will donate $1,000 each for our students of today and tomorrow. We hope that you will consider joining us at $1,000 or at a level affordable for you or your family.

Gratefully,
Rev. Daniel Nascimento, Pastor
Mr. Thomas White, Principal

School seismic retrofit

As you may recall, the Catholic Schools in San Francisco are moving in the direction of strengthening our buildings so our children can escape safely in the event of a major earthquake. Although we’ve survived several earthquakes, we’re looking to strengthen them to current earthquake building codes. We’ve already engaged the services of a project manager and architect and are in the midst of selecting a contractor to begin work this summer. Because of that, and with the approval of the Finance Committee, in the New Year we’ve decided to change the Second Collection of the 1st Sunday of every month. Currently, that 2nd collection goes to the Church Accessibility Upgrade Fund. We will be changing it to the School Earthquake Retrofit Fund. The accessibility fund has left as its goal to build a restroom in the vestibule of the Church. The raised funds will still go towards that purpose when we have sufficient funds for the project. In the meanwhile, as the plans are underway this summer to begin the School’s Seismic upgrade work, I ask for your support towards this endeavor. We have benefitted from the generous donors of years past who’ve built our Church and our School that we enjoy today. Now is an opportunity for us to “plant the seeds” so that future generations can likewise share in our good fortune.
